Women are discouraged from talking themselves up and often feel bad about self promotion but I am not that way at all. From a young age, I was taught to celebrate my successes and those of others through open encouragement and rowdy acknowledgement. Cupcakes are also a valid celebration strategy.
When I saw my friend Scott Hanselman respond to Ashley Strong‘s tweet, I sat and wrote myself a list of my year’s successes so far.
My 2020 Accomplishments are:
- Heading home to Australia after six years in the USA;
- Making it to my goal of five years at Amazon and then leaving before six;
- Semi-retiring so I only ever work by choice and not for need ever again;
- Learning Latin so I can read the classics in their original form;
- Started writing my second book;
- Building the most successful elite software team of my career;
- Growing out my curly hair after giving up decades of wearing braids;
- Returning to cooking and celebrating my skills in the kitchen; and
- Surviving 260 days in quarantine alone in a 760 square foot apartment.
Brag to me about your successes. I want to know!
