Erin Patterson is appealing her conviction for three counts of murder and one of manslaughter this month (August 2026).
I rarely have a strong response to appeals knowing that most of them are unsuccessful but thinking of her being given a retrial makes me feel a tide of emotions.

She has 7 points of appeal which were presented in writing and over two days to the Victorian Coutrt of Appeal. The Department of Public Prosecution have challenged the length of her sentence saying it isn’t long enough. Those arguments have been made and the judges are off doing their thinking and judging.
All I have been able to think about through this is Erin Patterson’s complete lack of remorse in this whole process.
She hasn’t admitted she did it when there is more than enough evidence showing she planned it by:
- Searching and finding death cap mashrooms;
- Buying a dehydrator and dehydrating those death caps;
- Cooking the dish that made only the guests sick and not her;
- Dumping the dehydrator;
- Lying about having cancer to get the guests there; and
- Previous attempts to kill her ex-husband.
She sat there as they ate food that would kill them in a horribly painful way and then let them pray for her.
At her trial, she didn’t admit guilt nor did she show any remorse. Other than her fake crying to the news cameras and saying she loved the victims as her family during police interviews, she didn’t show any regret or guilt.
It is OK if she gets to apply for parole when she is 81 years old. She probably won’t live that long anyway.
It is not ok if she gets a retrial. Who in Australia wouldn’t find her guilty again anyway?
